Sound Advice for Decorating Your Kid’s Bathroom

by William Scott

A child’s bathroom presents its own set of decorating challenges. Young children are frequent visitors to the bathroom, making this many times the most used room in the home. However, the bulk of parents have not the faintest idea where to start in decorating a bathroom for their child. If you’re a parent, you know just how outspoken kids can be when they don’t like something; so parents usually know right away when their dcor choices are unwanted. This article will give you a few tips for decorating a child’s bathroom.

Knowing The Gender Behind The Decorations

A boy’s bathroom can be decorated to appeal to his interest in specific passions such as cars, cowboys, bugs, etc. A bathroom used by a young girl can be decorated to appeal to other passions that a boy may not be interested in such as dolls or princesses. Decorating a bathroom begins with the gender of the child (or children) who will use the bathroom. If both a girl and a boy are going to use the same bathroom, it’s important to keep a neutral theme in the bathroom while catering to their interests simultaneously. For every need or theme, there are plenty of accessories that you can use.

What Accessories And Decorations Can Be Used?

There are a large number of different accessories which you can use to decorate a child’s bathroom. If your child is into cars, you can get a bathmat and shower curtain with cars on them - this will generally be available as a set. If your child is a Disney fan, then you can get a bathroom rug with their favorite Disney characters.

Toothbrush tumblers are another consideration, and come in literally hundreds of styles. For example, you could buy a dinosaur-shaped tumbler, or one of Cinderella. Lotion pumps or hand soap can be bought to fit within your chosen theme, too.

Doorknobs, wastebaskets, soap dishes and tissue dispensers can be found which will cater to the interests of any child. For instance, you can replace the knobs on any cabinets or drawers in your child’s bathroom to ones which will appeal to them. Clowns, animals, cars - really anything which interests your child can be readily adopted as a bathroom dcor.

As Your Child Changes, so Does the Bathroom

It’s no secret that your child’s tastes will change as they get older. Your child’s dcor and accessories will likely change right along with their interests. From soap dispensers to bathmats, shower curtains to doorknobs; even the tumblers can be changed to grow right along with your child.

Take care to avoid using decorations in your child’s bathroom that may be difficult to change. For example, wallpaper that has pictures of bugs on it may delight a boy when he is only a few years old. However, he will likely outgrow this passion, leaving wallpaper that needs to be replaced.

Ultimately, decorating a kid’s bathroom is only limited by your imagination. There are so many accessories available to decorate with that the true challenge is deciding which to use. The key to creating a bathroom that will delight your child is to know their interests and buy decorations that are easy to change as your child gets older. With a little planning and imagination, you can create the perfect bathroom for your child.
